Daily Projects coffee shop opens in Algonquin

There is a new spot along the Randall Road corridor to grab your favorite morning brew on the go, or to sip it inside while you work.

Daily Projects Café and Eatery opened at 124 S. Randall in Algonquin earlier this month.

The industrial loft-style cafe opened on June 10, and now fills the empty spot left when the former Bentley's Bagels and Brew closed in 2013.

"We were looking at a few locations. This one seemed to have a good community of coffee lovers," said Sang Hong, who owns the business with partner Kevin Rhee.

Daily Projects Café and Eatery serves up coffee - both hot and cold, as well as loose leaf tea, smoothies, homemade pastries, sandwiches and more.

Popular right now at Daily Projects are the business's cold brews, especially the vanilla iced cold brew. Presently, it is Daily Projects' most popular drink.

As the business gets going in the community, Daily Projects also is introducing new drinks and flavors for the warm months, including a seasonal sparkling mint limeade.

Since it's opening, more and more customers have been stumbling upon Daily Project Café and Eatery and liking what they find inside, Hong said.

Some stop in on their commute up and down Randall.

Others, however, come in to stay and sip for hours as they work on their own daily projects.

The folks at Daily Projects like to bill the business as a second space where customers can come in to work or chat.

For everyone doing work, or even for those simply posting pics of their coffee and croissant on social media via their phones, each seating place has an outlet to charge their devices.

Daily Projects still is working out the kinks of the new shop.

Adjusting to everything has been a great problem to have, because it means the business has been busy keeping up with the new, growing customer base.

So far, Hong said, they haven't advertised the business, but have done everything by word-of-mouth, and customers have been finding them that way.

They intend to have a grand opening soon when they are fully operational.

Presently, the hours of the shop are 7 a. m. to 4 p.m.

However, Hong has welcomed guests on social media, saying if customers see workers inside setting up, they are welcome to stop in and grab a drink.

Once they are more settled and the business is at full operations, Daily Projects will be opening earlier and have even more to offer, he said. That should be soon, Hong said.

Summer sweating:

The Geneva Commons mall along Randall Road is hosting a Zumba Dance Party this weekend.

Instructors from Northwestern Medicine Delnor Health and Fitness Center will be leading the Latin dance-inspired workout from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

This is the second Zumba dance party of the summer at the mall.

The workout will take place next to the stage area near Houlihan's restaurant at Geneva Commons.

Participants are invited to make an optional donation of $5 to participate. The funds raised will go to a local child advocacy nonprofit group.
