Two arrested after traffic stop

Two alleged gang members were arrested June 6 and charged with various crimes after a traffic stop near 10th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan, authorities said. Edurawdo L. Hawthorne, 29, of the 300 block of McKinley Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon without a firearm owner identification card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, fugitive from justice, and obstructing justice, authorities said. Hawthorne provided a false name to detectives during the stop to cover up an active arrest warrant from Kentucky for three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, authorities said. He also had a loaded firearm and 16 individually packaged bags of crack cocaine when arrested. Javon Roy, 23, also of the 300 block of McKinley Avenue, refused to exit the vehicle when ordered by police, and was arrested and charged with obstructing a peace officer. He was released on bail and given a July 18 court date. Hawthorne is held at the Lake County jail on $250,000 bail with a court date of June 27.
