Find family fun at Elmhurst History Museum this summer

"What are we going to do today?"

When the inevitable question comes up this summer, the Elmhurst History Museum has the answer with Summer Fun and Games programs for kids and lawn picnics on Tuesday afternoons.

Summer Fun and Games programs for children ages 3 to 12, accompanied by an adult, take place from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through July 26 at the Elmhurst History Museum's Education Center, 120 E. Park Ave., Elmhurst. Each week, museum staff members present a different drop-in craft activity with an invention or vintage theme. The program is free to members of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation, and $3 for others. No reservations are required. To become a foundation member, go to elmhurstheritagefoundation.org.

In addition, families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the Elmhurst History Museum lawn the day of the program from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A limited number of picnic tables are available, or families may bring a blanket to picnic on the lawn. Complimentary juice boxes and a sweet treat are provided while supplies last.

After the program, stop in the Elmhurst History Museum to view the exhibit, "But Wait, There's More!," the story of pitchman and inventor Ron Popeil. Family activity sheets are available for visitors while exploring the museum, and admission is free.

The 2016 Summer Fun and Games schedule is as follows:

• June 21: Build-your-own Catapult

• June 28: Make-your-own Flip Books and Thaumatropes

• July 12: Ronco 1970s Crafts Day
