Sponsor a child and enter to win a $300 Amazon gift card

The Aurora Public Library Foundation is offering a chance to win a $300 Amazon gift card for a $33.33 donation that will help prepare a child for kindergarten.

The Kiwanis Children's Center at the Richard and Gina Santori Public Library is partnering with Fox Valley United Way's Strong, Prepared and Ready for Kindergarten, a pilot program to provide 300 at-risk preschoolers with a book a month from September 2016 to May 2017. The $33.33 donation will provide the books to a child and literacy tools to his or her caregivers.

"The Kiwanis Shining Bright Literacy Program is exciting to SPARK and to the city of Aurora. It encourages participation in development screenings and other services," said SPARK Executive Director Trish Rooney. "According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation and other research, only one in three children in our area is prepared for kindergarten. The library is the most budget-friendly way for families to make sure their children are strong, prepared and ready for kindergarten."

The Aurora Public Library Foundation completed its campaign, "Building Community … Transforming Lives," with more than $4 million in donations. Phase II, "Transforming Lives … Together," focuses on enhancing services for Aurora's citizens most in need of services and modern technology.

"In addition to providing early literacy books and tools, programming with STEM materials such as LittleBits Kits is now being offered," said foundation president Kelly McCleary. "Additionally, Aurora's homebound will continue to receive library services, Light of Learning Scholarships are available and modern technologies such as Hot Spots are in circulation."
