With a "Thelma & Louise" theme, two top Des Plaines Elementary District 62 administrators were honored in style Monday night at an "End of the Road" retirement reception.
Colleagues, family, friends and community members gathered to say farewell to longtime Superintendent Jane Westerhold and Director of Community Relations Mindy Ward at the district's Early Learning Center, which was named in Westerhold's honor last year.
Westerhold, the one-time Illinois Superintendent of the Year recognized by the Illinois Association of School Administrators, oversaw the opening of the preschool in August 2011, other district facility renovations, and technology initiatives during her 11 years as superintendent. She is being replaced by Floyd E. Williams Jr., who has been an assistant superintendent, principal and adjunct university professor in Wisconsin.
Ward's replacement is Jennifer Bova, currently public information specialist for Woodland Elementary District 50 in Gurnee.
Westerhold and Ward's last official day is June 30.
