Bigotry is no answer to our problems

First and foremost, my prayers are with the families and friends who lost loved ones in the barbaric acts that took place in Orlando, Florida.

At this moment, bigotry is no answer to our problems. As a nation, we must stand together and unite against this evil that cloaks itself in the name of religion. The actions of a very few can't be used to paint all 1.6 billion Muslims the same.

The current landscape of the media and politics promotes Islam as a violent religion without a real understanding of the religion itself. We can not just turn a blind eye towards the real facts and follow what we see and hear everyday on TV and in the news.

If Omar Marteen was a real Muslim, he would have known that the holy month of Ramadan is a sacred time for prayers, forgiveness and charity. May God enable the families of the victims to find equanimity and may justice be served.
