Elgin Toyota proposing repair shop in Bartlett

Streamwood-based Elgin Toyota is looking to bring repair and detail services to a nearby 6.5-acre lot along Lake Street in Bartlett.

The site at 1180 W. Lake Street previously was home to the Abel RV Center, and is already owned by Elgin Toyota owner Robert Loquercio.

“(The lot) been kind of an eyesore for a while,” said Bartlett Community Development Director Jim Plonczynski.

Brush and debris recently were cleared, and two of the four buildings on the site were demolished. The remaining two buildings are proposed as locations for the detail shop and maintenance shop, according to village documents.

The dealership plans to spend at least $1 million to establish the maintenance shop, according to a letter the village of Bartlett received from his attorney, Peter Bazos.

Loquercio will use the maintenance and detail shops to service his fleet of vehicles, and is considering eventually opening it to the public, Plonczynski said. It is expected to bring about 20 new jobs to Bartlett.

Located just north of Lake Street and east of Elizabeth Drive, the land is divided into a north, south, west and cell tower lots. Bartlett annexed the south lot in 1995, and Elgin Toyota is asking officials bring the north lot and cell tower lot into the village as well.

Streamwood is authorized to annex the west lost.

The proposed service and repair center will get Bartlett water through a connection under Lake Street, Plonczynski said. An emergency interconnection between Bartlett and Streamwood also will be established.

“Streamwood and Bartlett will benefit from making that connection between the two community water systems,” Plonczynski said.

Bartlett village trustees will discuss the proposed plans Tuesday.

“Hopefully we'll get everything approved this summer, and they can get started on construction in the fall,” Plonczynski said.
