Boomers get swept by Joliet

The Schaumburg Boomers could not slow down the Joliet Slammers in a 12-4 loss on Sunday afternoon.

Joliet, second in the league in homers, hit four longballs in the game to sweep the series, building an early advantage for a third straight contest. The Slammers scored 6 runs in the second inning against starter Gunnar Kines. Joliet led 9-0 before the Boomers scored in the final three at bats with a run in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth. Chris Robinson drove home a run with a seventh inning single while Paul Kronenfeld notched a two-run single in the eighth. The Boomers scored in the final three innings of the game.

Kines worked 5 innings and struck out five but took the loss. Schaumburg logged 11 hits in the defeat. Mikal Hill tallied three hits with Jordan Dean, Robinson, and Mark Nelson each finishing with a pair.

The Boomers (16-17) open a six-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Lake Erie Crushers. RHP Kagen Hopkins (2-1, 3.16) will start for Schaumburg.
