Zion teen charged with shooting at Waukegan police

An 18-year-old from Zion is being held on $1 million bail after Waukegan police said he fired shots at officers early Friday.

Olvan Quezada, of the 2900 block of 30th Street in Zion, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm in the direction of a peace officer, defacing a firearm and possession of a weapon by a street gang member.

Waukegan police were called about 2 a.m. Friday for a domestic disturbance on the 3000 block of Arthur Court.

Unrelated to that call, one of the officers at the scene heard multiple shots being fired, police said. The officer immediately detained two people and called for additional officers to investigate, police said.

Three other officers who arrived heard someone yell an obscenity at police, then four or five shots were fired at the officers who were outside, and a person was seen fleeing the area, police said.

No one was injured, and officers did not return fire, police said.

Patrol officers and gang detectives recovered spent shell casings, fired projectiles and the gun believed to have been used, police said.

Two other men were charged. Johnathan Cardova, 24, of the 3000 block of Arthur Court in Waukegan, has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and defacing a firearm. William Servin, 19, of the 1200 Block of Victoria Street in North Chicago, has been charged with defacing a firearm and not having a FOID card.

All three are believed to have gang affiliations, police said. A fourth person was released without charges, police said.

Cardona's bail was set at $75,000, and Servin's bail was set at $30,000.
