Urban homicides deserve attention

There were reportedly 66 homicides in Chicago for the month of May. An astounding number, but not a record.

We wake up each Monday morning to hear the details of the shooting deaths in Chicago over the weekend. It's always an alarming number and it's been going on for years. Innocent children gunned down while sitting on the porch or playing on the sidewalk in front of their home.

Politicians pay lip service, but do little if anything about it. Our country spends billions of dollars fighting terrorism halfway around the world while doing nothing about terrorism on the streets of the major cities here at home. Most of the murders in Chicago are on the South and West sides and are black on black. I wonder what would happen if these murders were occurring in Barrington, Naperville or any other predominantly white upper middle-class suburb of Chicago.
