Hanover Township offers free lunches for kids this summer

Hanover Township is partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to provide healthy lunches to youth at two locations through Friday, Aug. 12. Children can receive a free lunch at the Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St., in Elgin or at the Astor Avenue Community Center at 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park, Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For children who are used to eating lunch at school every day, a consistent lunch may be hard to come by during the summer months. Now, township youth will be provided with a well-balanced meal at a convenient location. No registration or paperwork is required.

"Unfortunately there are kids in our community that have to wonder how they're going to get their next lunch," said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire. "Through this partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank we can combat this problem in our own backyard."

Last year the township served 1,191 summer meals to township youth.

Currently the only date lunch will not be served is Monday, July 4, as township offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day.

For information, contact the Izaak Walton Center at (847) 888-8329 or the Astor Ave., Community Center at (630) 540-9085.
