Hanover Township to dedicate heritage marker

Hanover Township will dedicate its eighth Heritage Marker Saturday, June 18, at the Izaak Walton League Lodge, 899 Jay St. in Elgin. The dedication ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed immediately by an Izaak Walton Center open house.

The public is invited to honor this historic site, while also taking a look at the renovations and additions to the property in an effort to better serve residents while preserving its history.

Summer lunches: Hanover Township has partnered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to offer free summer lunches to area youth. Through Friday, Aug. 12, children ages 18 and younger can stop in at their choice of two township locations for healthy lunches:

• Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave. in Hanover Park; (630) 540-9085.

• Izaak Walton Center & Reserve, 899 Jay St. in Elgin; (847) 888-8329.

Lunches will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. No registration or paperwork is required,

Open gym: Hanover Township's summer open gym schedule is set. Through Friday, Aug. 5, open gym will take place at these following locations:

• Mondays, from noon to 4 p.m. for age 5 to 14 at Bartlett Elementary, 111 North Ave. in Bartlett.

• Tuesdays, from noon to 4 p.m. for age 5 to 18 at Tefft Middle School, 1100 Shirley Ave. in Streamwood.

• Wednesdays, from noon to 4 p.m. for age 5 to 16 at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.

• Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. for age 5 to 18 at Tefft Middle School, 1100 Shirley Ave. in Streamwood.

Fridays are Field Trip Fridays and locations and times will vary.

Open gym will be extended an additional week at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center and Reserve, from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 1-5; age 5 to 16 are welcome to attend.

Northwest Fourth-Fest: Hanover Township is once again partnering with the village of Hoffman Estates and the Hoffman Estates Park District in sponsoring the Northwest Fourth-Fest at the Sears Centre for Fourth of July festivities. This unique partnership allows the opportunity to provide an Independence Day celebration for our residents, while working with neighboring communities to shoulder the cost and resources of such an event.

The Northwest Fourth-Fest will begin Thursday, June 30, and run through the holiday weekend, ending Monday, July 4. The largest firework show in the region is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3.
