Lake County deputies save Grayslake-area man from overdose

Lake County Sheriff's police say deputies saved an apparent drug overdose victim Friday by injecting him with the anti-opioid drug naloxone.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies called at 1:17 p.m. Friday to the 33600 block of North Evergreen Drive near Grayslake found a 22-year-old man unconscious and barely breathing in the home's basement. Nearby, they also found drug paraphernalia, indicating opioid use, authorities said.

Deputies administered two doses of naloxone before paramedics arrived on the scene and also administered a dose. The man resumed normal breathing and became conscious, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he is expected to recover.

"This is another example of young life almost lost to an opioid overdose, which is becoming all too common," Sheriff Mark Curran said in a news release. "The Lake County Sheriff's Office has saved the lives of more than 15 people overdosing on an opioid, but we need the community's support to put an end to this continuing pattern."
