Lake Villa's Celebration of Summer returns
Lake Villa's Celebration of Summer returns Saturday, June 11, for its 16th year and will feature a fun day of cars, ribs, music, games and fireworks.
The event opens at 10 a.m. at Lehmann Park, 148 Cedar Ave., and as Mayor Frank Loffredo puts it, "there's something for everyone." Admission is free.
Parents and children can enjoy classic carnival games or if they're hungry, grab some nachos or pulled pork at one of the food vendors. There's also a craft and vendor fair, raffle tickets, live music, the annual Rib Fest and an auto show.
Rib Fest will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and includes a rib-eating contest and a rib cooking contest. Participants can compete against other teams to win in the categories of best sauce ribs, best dry rub ribs and people's choice.
The auto show is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and showcase unique cars from around the area. If attendees want to show off their own car, they are able to enter it into the show for $5.
Live music will play from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. in a Ravinia-style setting. Crow's Feet Unplugged will play music for the Woodstock Generation starting at 6:30 p.m.
Raffle tickets will be on sale for $5 or 5 for $20. Prizes include a power washer, a generator, a scooter, paddle board, 50 inch TV and $250 gift certificate for KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark.
The event will end with fireworks that begin at dusk.
