Hanover Park man charged with sexually abusing teen

A 23-year-old Hanover Park man faces charges that he sexually abused a 16-year-old girl.

Karan Patel was ordered held on $200,000 bail Friday on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class two felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. Probation is also an option.

Prosecutors say Patel picked up the 16-year-old girl from her home last February to drive her to work. Instead, he drove to a parking lot and they drank vodka, which Patel supplied, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom. The girl became drunk and Patel sexually molested her, Grissom said. He also tried to persuade her to use cocaine but she refused, Grissom said.

Patel, who has no criminal background, was ordered to have no contact with the girl. He next appears in court on July 1.
