Chicago Bears sign Dartmouth QB, cut Lake Zurich's Blanchard
The Bears signed undrafted rookie Dalyn Williams as their No. 4 quarterback, waiving Matt Blanchard.
Blanchard, who quarterbacked Lake Zurich High School to the 7A title game in 2006, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Bears in 2012. He spent part that season and the next with the Bears.
Blanchard, 27, rejoined the Bears in 2015 after stints with the Indianapolis Colts (2015), Cleveland Browns (2015), Green Bay Packers (2015) and Carolina Panthers (2014). An all-American who was undefeated in three seasons at Wisconsin-Whitewater with 44 touchdown passes, Blanchard has not appeared in any regular-season games.
Williams threw for 7,458 yards and 56 touchdowns while completing 620 of 989 passes in 39 career games over four seasons at Dartmouth (2012-15). He also rushed for 1,494 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on 446 carries and finished his career as Dartmouth's career record holder in passing yards, completion percentage, pass completions, attempts, passing efficiency and total offense.
Williams attended the Bears 2016 rookie minicamp as a rookie tryout and will back up Jay Cutler, Brian Hoyer and David Fales.
