Two COD Softball Players Named to Division III All-American Team

College of DuPage Lady Chaparral freshman softball players Rachel Martin and Marjorie Sloan have been named to the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III All-American Team.

"Both an NJCAA and NFCA All-American, Rachel was an absolute stud for us this past season," said head Coach Ryan Connell. "Her 81 hits on the season was third best in the country and she had a .949 fielding percentage in 52 games."

Teammate Sloan contributed greatly to the team's performance this season with 74 hits, he said.

"Marjorie consistently contributed to our national leading hitting brigade of 621 hits and also led the nation in stolen bases (38)," Connell said.

For the 2015-2016 season, the Lady Chaparrals had a .383 batting average in 55 games with 39 home runs. The team was eliminated at the Region IV Tournament, but with both Martin and Sloan returning next year and a roster than includes All Region players Alyssa Ressinger, Brittney Pettinger, Delaney Pelsor, Mina Marra and Erin Sporer, Connell said the team is poised to make another run at the national championship in 2017.
