Huntley library's summer reading program begins June 8

The Huntley Area Public Library's annual summer reading program begins on Wednesday, June 8. The theme this year is "Reading Colors Your World." This popular pastime appeals to all ages. Last year, nearly 1,000 people signed up on the first day alone.

Participants may register for Reading Colors Your World throughout the summer to read, attend programs, and earn prizes. Adult and teen summer reading registration is available online beginning June 8 at www.huntleylibrary.org.

The program runs through Aug. 6.

Kona Ice will be at the library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 8 and 9, to help kick off the summer reading program. The Friends Foundation will earn a percentage of sales.

Fun programs are lined up for the entire summer. For the kids, there will be a hands-on science museum, "Confection Creation with Morkes Chocolate," a flea market, puppet show with Chris McBrien, kite-making workshop and stunt flying demo, and drop-in visits with Dakota Henn's colorful creatures.

Teen Tuesdays return for the summer with Henna Art, Paper Circuits and a Perler Party for sixth to 12th grade. Adults can look forward to their own coloring time with the program "Color On." Find out about program and registration information in the library's "The Whole Story" newsletter or at www.huntleylibrary.org.

This year, children could win weekly prizes including Legos, LED flying saucers, coloring kits, Disney Princess dolls and more! The children's grand prizes include a custard party at Culvers, a pool party at Centegra, Shedd Aquarium tickets, a Yumz frozen yogurt party, with more being added as we lead up to the kickoff! Adults and teen prizes include gift cards for Amazon, Algonquin Commons, Brunch Cafe and Starbucks, to name a few.

Registration for "Reading Colors Your World" as well as the programs and special events throughout the summer are required, but are open to anyone who wishes to participate. Residents who would like to get a library card may bring a photo ID showing a current address to register for their card at no charge.

The library's summer reading program and events are sponsored by the Huntley Area Public Library District Friends Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, along with supplementary funding through a grant from the EFS Foundation. Many local businesses and organizations also contribute prizes for avid readers.
