Two drivers hurt in collision in Beach Park

Alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash Sunday night in Beach Park that injured both drivers - one critically - Lake County sheriff's officials said Monday.

The crash happened a 10:12 p.m. Sunday on North Sheridan Road south of Suddard Place, according to a news release.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2009 Honda Civic was traveling south on Sheridan Road from Wadsworth Road in a reckless manner when the vehicle rear-ended a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, causing the Honda to roll, police said.

The driver of the Honda, a 27-year-old Waukegan man, was taken to Vista East Hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 29-year-old Waukegan man, was also taken to Vista East; his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

No charges have been filed, so police are not releasing the names of the drivers involved, said Christopher Covelli, Lake County sheriff's public information officer.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate.
