Remember Dist. 15 board action at the polls
This letter is in regard to the editorial published on May 29 by the Daily Herald Editorial Board titled "District 15 fails transparency test on teacher contract." This editorial takes the school board to task for, among other things, their lack of transparency in their adoption of an unprecedented 10-year contract with the teachers union, tying the hands of future school boards with financial promises that may be difficult to keep.
With almost no public discussion, this school board essentially rubber stamped the deal after having been provided a mere three-page summary of the yet-to-be written contract.
The editorial even went to the extent to state that there should be a state law to forbid boards from acting in the manner they did, and thank goodness our local legislators are now working to do just that.
Let's hope that the Daily Herald editorial board remembers their outrage at this school board when it is time for them to offer their endorsements for next year's election.
Let's also hope that the residents of this district then do their part in educating themselves on the candidates and exercising their civic duty to vote.
