The Moorings breaks ground on $70 million expansion in Arlington Heights

The Moorings of Arlington Heights broke ground Friday on a $70 million expansion project that will include construction of a new chapel/fellowship hall and 70 additional assisted-living apartments in a four-story building on the 42-acre site along Central Road.

The work is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2018. An additional 20 new assisted-living/memory support apartments are slated for completion the following year.

"Our organization is looking forward to serving today's residents and those to come," Todd Swortzel, president and chief executive officer of Moorings owner Presbyterian Homes, said in a news release. "This community will be well-positioned to serve future generations of older adults."

More than 450 people currently live at The Moorings in a mix of independent-living villas, assisted-living units and skilled care nursing rooms.
