Crystal Lake motorcyclist stable after Algonquin accident

A Crystal Lake motorcyclist was listed as stable Saturday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge after a serious accident Friday night that left Algonquin Road in Algonquin closed for 3½ hours while police investigated, patrol Sgt. Paul Riese said.

Lothar Wagner, 56, was westbound in the right lane of Algonquin Road east of Eastgate Drive when his red 1994 Honda Magna ran into the rear of a 2000 dark blue Toyota that was slowing by the entrance to a McDonald's restaurant, Riese said.

The Honda crossed several lanes of the four-lane highway and traveled about 75 feet before Wagner, who was not wearing a helmet, fell off in the left lane, Riese said. The motorcycle traveled another 100 feet to the intersection of Algonquin and Eastgate. Wagner was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital, then transferred to Lutheran General. The driver of the Toyota wasn't seriously hurt but his son was taking him to the hospital to be checked out, Riese said.

Because of the severity of the accident, the traffic unit was called out to investigate, keeping the road closed for an extended time. Police still need to talk to the drivers of the vehicles, Riese said. No charges have been filed.
