Bring out your inner wildflower

Sherry and John Petersik are a Richmond, Virginia-based couple who have chronicled their home improvement adventures on the DIY blog Young House Love. The blog led to two best-selling books - "Young House Love" and "Lovable Livable Home" - as well as product lines sold by Target, Home Depot, Shades of Light and more.

The couple is in the process of renovating their third home, where they live with their two children and dog.

We asked the Petersiks to choose three Splurge & Save options for fresh and modern florals. They embraced the idea of looking for fun patterns that are a far cry from the chintz upholstery that graced your grandparents' living room.

Here are their picks:

SPLURGE: Candid Moment Audin upholstered chair ($550, worldmarket.com). SAVE: Burke accent print slipper chair in Candid Moment Ebony fabric ($160, target.com).

SPLURGE: Sketchbook floral wallpaper in silver ($140 per roll, hyggeandwest.com). SAVE: Petal Play floral damask wall stencil ($50, royaldesignstudio.com).

SPLURGE: Paradise Found dinner plates ($104 for four, anthropologie.com). SAVE: Colorwave floral appetizer plates in turquoise ($25 for set of four, bedbathandbeyond.com).

Left, sketchbook floral wallpaper in silver (($140 per roll, hyggeandwest.com); right, Petal Play floral damask wall stencil ($50, royaldesignstudio.com). Hyggeandwest.com; Royaldesignstudio.com
Paradise Found dinner plates, left, ($104 for four, anthropologie.com); Colorwave floral appetizer plates in turquoise ($25 for set of four, bedbathandbeyond.com). Anthropologie; Bedbathandbeyond.com
