Readers of all ages are Olympians at LVDL 2016

Lake Villa District Library's "Read. Do. Win." summer reading program offers a level of reading and doing for every age: babies/toddlers, pre-school/kindergarten, school-age, teens and adults.

New this year, adults receive credit for time spent reading to their children. Reading logs, available at Adult and Youth Reference Desks, help track progress for prizes. Patrons receive a registration prize and a midway prize and earn raffle tickets to improve their chances for winning their age-group's grand prize.

All readers are encouraged read the library's One Book, One Community 2016 selection, "The Boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown. It tells the tale of nine working-class boys from the American west who, at the 1936 Olympics, showed the world what true grit really means.

Copies of the book, including the Young Reader Adaptation, were purchased by the Friends of Lake Villa District Library.

LVDL's summer reading programs are meant to encourage and inspire reading during time off from school and to make visiting the library a fun, frequent stop for the entire family.

Everyone is invited to LVDL 2016 Closing Ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 20, with music, activities for the whole family and free ice cream for the first 400 people who attend. No registration required.
