Softball: Seniors take the stage for MSL all-star game

After taking a year off because of the weather, the Mid-Suburban League Senior All-Star Softball Game hopes to finally add a 22nd chapter on Monday, June 13 at Barrington's Fields of Dreams.

When the 2015 game was rained out, it marked only the second time (1999 was the first) that the all-star softball entertainment could not go on as scheduled. There is no rain day available each year.

Diplomas may have been passed out and graduations are just fond memories, but Mid-Suburban League seniors have one more opportunity to wear their softball uniforms and represent their high schools in competition.

This time, it's really just for fun and, of course, division pride.

Will the MSL West or MSL East have bragging rights when the final out is made on June 13?

The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Barrington.

The all-star softball headliner provides an opportunity for MSL senior players to share the dugout with division opponents and enjoy those final moments in the high school sports spotlight.

The MSL All-Star Game was organized by Barrington coach Perry Peterson with the cooperation of the league coaches.

The coaches also decided to present a most valuable player award each year, which would be presented prior to the start of the game the following June.

The MVP award was named in the memory of Nancy Frisk, who died of cancer in 1992. Nancy was the wife of Bob Frisk, an enthusiastic supporter of high school sports for his 50 years at the Daily Herald who retired in 2008.

Because there was no game played in 2015, the 2014 Nancy Frisk MVP award won by Palatine's Courtney English was presented at her home during the summer of 2015 by Bob Frisk.

Rosters of the seniors have been announced by the MSL coaches:
