14-year-old Aurora boy faces multiple gun charges
A 14-year-old Aurora boy was charged with five counts of unlawful use of a weapon and a single count of unlawful contact with a street gang member.
Members of the Aurora police gang unit say they saw the boy hanging out with two men near Grove and Superior streets at about 6:20 p.m. May 23.
When the boy saw the investigators, he began to run, they said. The officers lost sight of the boy, so they continued looking for him. After several minutes they saw a male, dressed all in black, hopping a fence on the 900 block of Front Street.
Officers approached the home there, where they heard wood striking wood and garbage can lids slamming.
The teen then appeared from the shadows and was held at gunpoint until he could be handcuffed. Several other officers arrived, and while they were checking the boy's path toward the home, officers found a loaded handgun behind a garage near where the boy was seen climbing a fence. He was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
