Ironic Lauzen still pushing toll plan

It's ironic, according to Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen, that he supports the Longmeadow Bridge and toll project since he doesn't like tollways (James Fuller article, May 21).

However, is it ironic to support a project that local residents decidedly oppose, that bisects a forest preserve that cost taxpayers $40 million, and is admittedly being built to help McHenry County?

Is it ironic that Lauzen dismisses Dundee Township referendum results that show nearly 9,000 residents oppose the boondoggle because he believes the wording was biased? In 2013 Lauzen himself called for a referendum to let voters decide the Longmeadow toll project, his exact words, "My support for this project is contingent on a referendum."

So who got to Lauzen to make him change his mind and push for a boondoggle that will stuff the pockets of a few companies? Lauzen reinforced his Longmeadow support in the State of the County address which certainly highlights what people are discovering - Kane is just as inept and lacking in common sense as Cook County.

Lauzen can look to the fact that Joe Haimann will no longer represent Kane County District 24 to prove that voters knew exactly what they were doing with their votes. They oppose Longmeadow and its $140 million cost and the damage to the environment and property values. They voted Haimann out of office because he supported the boondoggle yet Lauzen continues to push the project. Now that's ironic.
