Elgin man, teen facing gun charges
A man and teen from Elgin are facing weapon charges after police found them in possession of a handgun Saturday, authorities said.
About 3 a.m., police investigated a vehicle that was being driven by the 17-year-old near the 1500 block of Dundee Avenue, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department. While searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded semi-automatic 9 mm handgun under the driver's seat, the news release said.
The front-seat passenger, Boun Gonzalez, 25, of the 1100 block of Mohawk Drive, is facing a felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with no concealed carry license, according to police.
The teen is facing juvenile felony charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with no concealed carry license, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon under the age of 21 and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon uncased and loaded, police said.
The juvenile, who officers determined was under the influence of alcohol, is also charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, Deputy Chief Bill Wolf said.
