Create three distinct zones on your patio

Our patio is nice and pretty large, but we just don't know what to do with the space. I don't know if we should have a few separate areas set up or if we should focus on one main setup.

We'd love to be able to have a space to entertain our friends and family this summer, but it would also be nice to have somewhere to just sit out and relax.

Budget: $10,000 or more.

This large, open patio has room for multiple designs and seating areas.

Suggestions:

• This is a large patio with many options available. Use a sectional type seating area on one side with a fire pit for nighttime entertainment. Add a large, cantilever umbrella for day time use while relaxing with friends and family.

• Also keep a dining area so you have that space, as well, to barbecue and have a dinner outside.

• Use part of the patio as a lounge area with some teak Adirondack chaise longues. This adds the summer relaxation feel to the patio. Pair with a decorative table to add a pop of color.

• For this design I stayed neutral and added pops of blue with various patterns to create style. Don't be afraid to mix metal with teak and woven materials. Every outdoor spot can use a little more excitement or pattern by using a rug to add a little style.

You can stay neutral with your table and seating choices, and then add pops of blue with accent tables. Pillows and a rug with various patterns create style. Don't be afraid to mix metal with teak and woven materials.
This design by Steinhafels' Anne Hildreth establishes a lounge area, left, dining table, center, and informal seating area, right.
