Restaurant belongs on main thoroughfare

The Kane County Liquor Commission showed admirable responsibility by doing their due diligence with regard to deciding whether to grant a liquor license for the proposed Hideaway 64 venue last week.

Most of them expanded their understanding of the issue before the vote by spending more time on the local roads near the location. The commisioners came to the table with open minds and gave any and all residents who wished to speak a chance to do so at a local meeting before their final vote.

Many local residents voiced their opposition to the liquor license due to their concerns for the health and safety of their families, neighbors, and others who come to the area to hike and bicycle. These concerns are due to the fact that the neighborhood does not support an increased traffic load due to the narrow, hilly, winding, poorly lit streets with no sidewalks.

With this increased awareness, the Liquor Commission did their best to do the job they are tasked to do in any and all situations to protect the health and safety of the residents. By voting against having an increased potential for drinking and driving in this challenging area, they were not swayed by the pressure of tax revenue nor their sincere wish to support the growth of new business. They put the health and safety of the public first.

There is no prejudice by anyone against the new owners, the Casiello family. Even though they wish to bring a positive venue closer to the area, a restaurant that serves liquor belongs on a major thoroughfare for the safety of all, patrons and locals.
