Get in the game with Vernon Area Public Library's Summer Library Club

Vernon Area Public Library District's popular Summer Library Club begins Saturday, June 4, and continues through Sunday, July 24, with activities, programs and prizes for newborns to age 100. The program gears up with a Smoothie Social, 12-2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the library, 300 Olde Half Day Rd. in Lincolnshire. The all-ages celebration will feature rhythm & blues/rock 'n' roll musician Bailey Dee, frequent performer at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, kids games, a craft and a variety of fruit smoothies. No registration is required for this free event.

Beginning Saturday, June 4, Summer Library Club participants may pick up reading and activity logs designed for each age group - birth through preschool, grade school, teens and adults. Patrons receive prizes for registering, reaching milestones along the way and completing activity logs. Finishers are also entered into raffles to win prizes in each age group.

Engaging in library activities over the summer is an effective way to combat "summer slide," the learning loss that occurs between the last dismissal bell and the next academic year. Incentives encourage adults, too, to take advantage of all that the library offers including popular materials and programs that inform and entertain. A calendar of events, many coordinated with Summer Library Club, is available at http://www.vapld.info/events/events-calendar. For more info, visit www.vapld.info or call 847-634-3650.
