Elginite selected as ECC student trustee for 2016-17
Diego Gonzalez, the new student member of the Community College District 509 board of trustees, wants to help Elgin Community College continue to be an environment where students can stay involved on campus and create connections beyond the classroom.
"I would like to see and encourage the student body to make use of all of these resources (at ECC)," the Elginite said.
Those resources include the Tutoring Center, the Write Place, and the many opportunities ECC offers to improve student leadership skills.
Gonzalez was selected to serve a one-year term as student trustee through April 2017. He replaces Jorge Galvan. He has been extremely involved at ECC, serving on the College Programming Board, the Organization of Latin American Students, and helping organize Latino Heritage Month and Welcome Weeks.
"I have been able to learn more about the diversity that the campus has, as well as get new techniques to approach people and gain more confidence in myself," he said.
Gonzalez plans to attend DePaul University to study business administration and international businesses after he graduates from ECC.
