Softball: Hampshire, Crystal Lake South advance to regional finals

Morgan Haefling had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI Thursday to lead the Hampshire softball team to a 9-5 win over Marian Central in the semifinals of the Class 3A Hampshire regional.

The Whip-Purs (18-16) will play Johnsburg at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Joslyn Nelson added 2 hits for Hampshire in Thursday's win while Renee Malecke, Sarah Bowen (2 RBI) and Peyton DeChant each had doubles.

Jasmine Lopez was the winning pitcher.

CL South 4, Grant 3: Crystal Lake South scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning then held off a Grant rally to escape with a win at the Class 4A Dundee-Crown regional. The Gators (14-12) will play Barrington at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional title. Emily Sulikowski had 2 hits for CLS in Thursday's win. Sam Burgard was the winning pitcher in relief.

Lake Park 8, South Elgin 2: The Storm's season came to an end with this loss at the Class 4A St. Charles North regional. South Elgin (18-17) managed just 3 hits in the game, singles by Amber Derr, Mariah Spivey and Bailey McClure.
