MacPhail family has a rich history in baseball

The MacPhail lineage in baseball began in 1890 with the birth of Larry MacPhail. It carried on with Larry's son, Lee, and continues well into the 21st Century with Lee's son, Andy MacPhail, and his sons, Drew and Reed. Here is a look at key positions in baseball held by four generations of MacPhails:

Larry MacPhail (Feb 3, 1890 - Oct. 1, 1975)

• Cincinnati Reds: GM, chief executive (1933-37)

• Brooklyn Dodgers: president, GM (1938-42)

• New York Yankees: president, GM, part owner (1945-47)

• National Baseball Hall of Fame (1978)

Lee MacPhail (Oct. 25, 1917 - Nov. 8, 2012)

• New York Yankees: farm director (1948-58); GM (1966-74)

• Baltimore Orioles: GM, president (1958-65)

• Major League Baseball: assistant to commissioner (1965-66)

• American League: president (1974-83)

• National Baseball Hall of Fame (1998)

Andy MacPhail (63 years old)

• Houston Astros: asst. scouting director (1981), asst. GM (1982-83)

• Minnesota Twins: VP, player development (1984); GM (1985-94)

• Chicago Cubs: president and CEO, GM (1994-2006)

• Baltimore Orioles: president, baseball operations (2007-2011)

• Philadelphia Phillies: special assistant (2015), president (2015-present)

Reed MacPhail (27 years old)

• Major League Baseball: director of economics & strategy

Drew MacPhail (23 years old)
