Former Pinckneyville bookkeeper sentenced in fraud case

BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A 53-year-old former bookkeeper for a small southern Illinois fire protection district has been sentenced to prison for defrauding taxpayers of more than $444,000.
Tammy L. Kellerman was sentenced to 33 months in prison Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Benton. She pleaded guilty Feb. 2 to four counts of mail fraud.
Kellerman stole the money from the Pinckneyville Rural Fire Protection District between 2004 and 2013, and then used the funds to pay her personal credit card bills and other expenses.
The former bookkeeper was ordered to pay back the stolen money. She will be placed on a three-year term of supervised release after her prison term.
The federal case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James M. Cutchin.
