Virginia assistant Kim McNeill named head coach at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The University of Hartford has hired Kim McNeill, an associate head coach at Virginia, to be its women's basketball coach.

McNeill replaces Jen Rizzotti, who left last month to become head coach at George Washington.

This will be McNeill's first head coaching job. The 38-year-old has served on Joanne Boyle's staff at Virginia since 2011. She also has been an assistant at Georgia, California, James Madison and Richmond.

Hartford also announced Wednesday that McNeill's husband, Cory, will join her as an assistant coach, a role he also had at Virginia.

Kim McNeill was an all-conference defensive player at Richmond in 2000. She had transferred there from Radford, where she was named the 1996 Big South Rookie of the Year.
