"We thought we'd have something special on our breaks to thank everyone for supporting our shows these past five years," said bandleader Roy Vombrack. "Ken Mate's comedy magic routines are family-friendly but still very funny and clever." Mate's appearance is co-produced by Durty Nellie's and RSVP.

The evening celebrates the 17-piece Jazz Consortium Big Band's fifth anniversary of bringing Big Band Swing and Jazz-Rock fusion to the Northwest suburbs monthly at Durty Nellie's, tailored to the likes of casual fans and aficionados alike. During this time the group has sponsored a yearly holiday food drive at Nellie's, and it features local high school jazz bands showcasing their talents by opening for the Consortium's performances. The band also plays regularly at concerts, nightclubs and special events throughout the Chicago area, including at the legendary Jazz Showcase and the iconic FitzGerald's nightclub.

Special guest Ken Mate is a nationally known entertainer who has performed his blend of stand-up comedy and magic in concert and on TV for over three decades. He has appeared with more than 80 stars as the guest opening act, including the bands Alabama, the Beach Boys and Chicago, and artists as varied as Ray Charles, Charlie Daniels, Crystal Gayle, Smokey Robinson and the Smothers Brothers. He has hosted live shows for Oprah Winfrey, Grand Prix Auto Racing, and 1000's of meetings for major corporations at conferences and conventions.

Mate was featured on the NBC-TV special "The World's Greatest Magic", taped at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. And his magic hands have appeared in commercials including McDonald's, Chevy, and "The Incredible Edible Egg."
