Softball: Huntley, St. Charles East open regionals with wins

Tiffany Giese threw a 1-hitter with 16 strikeouts and 1 walk as Huntley's softball team defeated Rockford Guilford 5-0 Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 4A Huntley regional.

The Red Raiders (25-8) set a program record for wins in a season with the victory and will play the winner of Wednesday's game between Harlem and Jacobs at 3 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Giese, who moved her record to 24-6 on the season, also led the Red Raiders at the plate with 3 hits and 3 stolen bases. Rylie Porretto added a triple and 2 RBI, Caitlin Brown had 2 hits and Jessica Shields added 2 hits and 2 stolen bases for Huntley.

St. Charles East 17, Streamwood 2: Rylee Stout had 2 hits with a home run and 2 RBI as the Saints (30-4) advanced to Saturday's championship game of the Class 4A Hoffman Estates regional where they will play the winner of Wednesday's game between Schaumburg and Wheaton North at 11 a.m. Also contributing to the SCE offense were Katie Kolb (2 hits), Kelly Rinker (2 hits, 2 RBI), Maddie Candre (3 hits, 2B, 6 RBI), Paige Ligocki (2B, RBI) and Sarah Kreiner (2 hits, 2 RBI). Jordan Hall picked up the win in the circle, allowing 3 hits and no earned runs with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 4 innings. Jessica Daley and Laura Dietrich each had doubles for Streamwood (13-18).
