Clinic on dog-powered sports in Hoffman Estates

A pair of dog-running clubs will present a two-day "Dog Powered Sports Clinic" over Memorial Day weekend at Cabela's in Hoffman Estates.

The clinic is designed to help every athlete from the recreational to the competitive get started in dog-powered sports.

Two-time Canicross World Champion and former professional triathlete Antony le Moigne will be the instructor of the clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29, at Cabela's, 5225 Prairie Stone Parkway in Hoffman Estates.

Presented by The Windy City Mushers and The Greater Lafayette Canicross Club, the clinic will cover the disciplines of canicross, skijor, bikejor, sled and scooter.

The event also features the debut of the independent film, "Dog Power."

The cost of the event is $15 for the movie, or $25 for one day and $50 for both days.

Topics will include breed selection, dog nutrition, equipment, training and injury prevention.

There will be a ski clinic for those wishing to participate in skijor, hands-on and practical training, and equipment available for sizing and sale.
