Annual gem, mineral, fossil, and jewelry show returns this weekend

Seven area hobby clubs are celebrating the Chicagoland Gems & Minerals Association's Ruby Jubilee! Experience the excitement of Illinois' largest gem, mineral, fossil, and jewelry show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton. Admission is $5 or $3 for students and seniors. Two-day passes for $8 or $5 are available. Children under 13 are admitted free.

It will feature more than 30 nationally known dealers, educational exhibits from museums and private collections, gold panning, lapidary demonstrations, Kids' Korner, silent auctions, door prizes, and more. Shop for rocks, gems, minerals, crystals, fossils, geodes, jewelry, beads, cabochons, books, and more. See hands-on demonstrations of jewelry making, opal cutting, silversmithing, glass fusing, wire-wrapping, rock carving, fossil preparation, gem-tree creation, and faceting. It is air-conditioned and food is available on site. There is free parking. Families with children are welcome.

The clubs of the Chicagoland Gems & Minerals Association are Chicago Rocks & Minerals Society (Skokie), Des Plaines Valley Geological Society (Des Plaines), Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois (ESCONI, Glen Ellyn), Elgin Rock Club (Elgin), Northeast Illinois Gold Prospectors (Mokena), South Suburban Earth Science Club (Park Forest), and West Suburban Lapidary Club (Elmhurst).
