10 arrests made in Italian match-fixing inquiry on Serie B

NAPLES, Italy (AP) - Ten members of the Camorra crime syndicate have been arrested and three soccer players have been placed under investigation by Italian authorities probing an alleged Serie B match-fixing ring.

Police say the arrests were made at dawn Monday, marking the latest in a series of match-fixing inquiries marring Italian soccer.

Two matches are under investigation: Avellino's 3-0 win over Reggina and Modena's 1-0 win over Avellino in 2013-14.

During an intercepted phone call regarding the Avellino-Reggina game, one suspect was heard saying "we've got to eat three meatballs."

The players placed under investigation are current Genoa and former Avellino defender Armando Izzo, who was called up for an Italy training camp last week but dropped from the squad Monday; former Avellino captain Francesco Millesi; and retired Avellino player Luca Pini.
