Kane County Cougars blast 3 home runs in win over Wisconsin

APPLETON, Wis. - Along with three home runs, the Kane County Cougars rode a strong performance by pitcher Cody Reed to earn a 7-1 victory and a split in their series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Monday.

The Cougars (22-21) scored 6 times in the fourth inning on 3 hits, 2 errors and 3 walks. The Timber Rattlers scored their lone run in the seventh. Reed worked 7 innings, giving up 1 run and 6 hits, and had 8 strikeouts and 0 walks in the win.

Jose Queliz hit a solo home run for the Cougars in the second inning to open the scoring. Reed (4-2) worked out of a third-inning jam after putting two base runners in scoring position with no outs. A pop up, strikeout, and groundout left the Cougars undamaged.

In the fourth, the Cougars scored six times. Joey Armstrong blasted a two-run homer to make the score 3-0, and back-to-back singles and an infield error pushed across three more runs. The 6-score inning was a season high for the Cougars.

Wisconsin scored a run in the seventh inning on an RBI from Luis Aviles against Reed, but that was all they mustered.

The Cougars start the second series of the road stand at Peoria tomorrow with a 7 p.m. first pitch.
