Baseball: Oswego East ends West Aurora's season

West Aurora (12-18-1) saw its season come to an end at the Class 4A Metea Valley regional against No. 16 seed Oswego East 14-4 in 5 innings despite Connor Palmby's double and home run. Cody Wyeth and Logan Love each had 2 hits as West Aurora, the No. 17 seed who led 4-3 to start the bottom of the fifth inning, and then allowed 11 runs across.

Geneva 3, Kaneland 1: The Vikings (22-11) pushed 2 across in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh to sneak passed the Knights (13-13) in a nonconference pitchers duel. Brian Callaly allowed no runs on 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 innings to get the win in relief of Noah Davidson, who was just as stingy giving up just 2 hits on 1 earned run and 1 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. Josh Pollastrini went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 strikeout and 3 walks, and his offense only saw Jack Marshall (2B) and Matt O'Sullivan (RBI) come through in both team's final tuneup before the postseason.

Cary-Grove 6, St. Charles East 2: At Trout Park in Elgin, the Trojans (23-11) took this nonconference game behind Ben Levicki's 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Nick Kirk also had 2 hits for Cary-Grove, who saw Justin Trausch (RBI) and Tom Neilson both double. The Saints (21-14) mustered 2 runs across on 7 hits as East faced 5 pitchers, with Michael Eleftheriou (5H, 2R, 2ER, 1K, 2BB) earning the win in 3 innings pitched. Brendan Benvenuti doubled home 2 runs while Kyle Tiltges (2B) and Thomas Adams (2 hits) accounted for the Saints, offensively. Niko Klebosits suffered the loss on the mound.

Huntley 5, Palatine 0: In nonconference action, Trevor Ranallo (2B) and Jeff Heinrich (2 RBI) each had 2 hits as the Red Raiders (21-14) cruised to a win. Nick Laxner pitched 4 innings of 2-hit ball with 3 strikes to get the shutout win.

Batavia 13, Wheaton North 3 (5 inn): The Bulldogs scored 6 times in the third and fourth innings to end this nonconference tilt a little early. Tyler Kledziik's fingerprints were all over this win, as he doubled and homered to finish 3-for-3 with 4 RBI. Glenn Albanese, Jr. (2 RBI) and Luke Beckmann (2B) each had 2 hits as Batavia totaled 10 hits, giving pitcher Luke Golson (5 IP, 3H, 3R, 2ER, 4K, 2BB) enough pad for the win.

Dundee-Crown 5, Harlem 3: Patrick Harvey (2B) had 2 hits for the Chargers (16-15) in this nonconference win, while Jim Welzien and Taylor Schmidt both tripled. Erik Hedmark, Matt Weichmann and Ryan Denz each knocked in runs as D-C jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 3 innings. It made Weichmann's win on the mound that much easier, as he tossed 4 innings and allowed 4 hits on 1 run with 1 strikeout and 3 walks.

Downers Grove South 6, Jacobs 4: Tim Randl (3-for-3, 3 RBI) homered for the Golden Eagles (20-13), who dropped this nonconference game despite a 3-run rally in the seventh.

ACC 5, Andrew 1: The Chargers (21-13) won a nonconference game with Sean Sinisko (RBI) leading the way with 2 hits, including a double. Michael Bieterman (2B, RBI) also contributed to the offense, who saw Jimmy Laurenti drive in 2 runs. Pitcher Jake Smith tossed 3 innings, allowed 1 hit and stuck out 4 on 2 walks to get the win. John Cosgrove allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 4 innings of relief.
