Boys volleyball: Maleski, Leonard lead a Stevenson victory

Grant Maleski and Justin Leonard slammed 9 and 8 kills, respectively, as Stevenson's boys volleyball team beat Mundelein 25-12, 25-11 in a play-in match of the Antioch regional on Monday night.

Jeffrey Wang dished out 21 assists for Stevenson (18-17), which will play No. 5 Libertyville at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the regional semifinals. Matt Cliffere contributed 3 blocks for Stevenson.

Lakes d. Antioch: At Antioch, the 13th-seeded Eagles beat their district rival 25-19, 25-18 to advance to Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. regional semifinal against No. 4 Lake Forest.

Fremd d. Grayslake Central: At Buffalo Grove, the Rams lost 25-17, 25-12 in their regional play-in.

Keegan Zack delivered 3 kills and 2 aces for No. 20 Grayslake Central, which ended its inaugural season with a 12-14-1 record. Bobby Fortmann had 3 kills and 2 blocks, and Danny Lantz notched 3 blocks. The Rams also received 7 digs from Josh Garcia and 4 assists from Matt Kozak.

"It was a great first season for the Rams," Grayslake Central coach Dan Erlenbaugh said. "This group laid the foundation for the program, and the future looks bright."

Zion-Benton d. Grayslake North: At Buffalo Grove, the 11th-seeded Zee-Bees won 25-7, 25-12 to end the inaugural season of the Knights, who were seeded 22nd.

Zion-Benton will play No. 6 Buffalo Grove at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Carmel d. North Chicago: At Highland Park, the ninth-seeded Corsairs rolled to a 25-9, 25-7 win to earn a berth in Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. regional semifinal against No. 8 Vernon Hills.

Highland Park d. Grant: At Highland Park, the 16th-seeded Giants won 25-12, 25-14 to dispatch the 17th-seeded Bulldogs.

Highland Park will face top-seeded Barrington at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the regional semifinals.

Warren d. Rochelle Zell: At Waukegan, No. 10 Warren won 25-7, 25-10 to advance to Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. regional semifinal against No. 7 Palatine.
