Pedestrians injured when struck by car near Sugar Grove

Two pedestrians were injured early Sunday morning when struck by a car while attempting to walk across Route 47 near Sugar Grove, Kane County authorities said.

Kane County Sheriff's police said the men had just left the gas station at Jericho Road and Route 47 and were attempting to cross to the west side of the highway at about 12:25 a.m. when a 2016 Chevrolet Spark driving south on Route 47 hit them.

David Anderson, 43, of Bristol, Illinois, was flown by helicopter to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment of his injuries. Curtis Lippold, 26, of Aurora, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Aurora and later flown by helicopter to Good Samaritan.

Both were in serious condition as of 5 p.m. Sunday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The driver of the vehicle, Frank Tofteland, 22, of Yorkville, was uninjured and cooperated with deputies, sheriff's police said.

The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team responded and is investigating. No charges have been filed.

Route 47 was closed for approximately three hours but has since been reopened.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by Montgomery, Yorkville, and Sugar Grove police, the Kane County Office of Emergency Management, and Sugar Grove Fire Department.
