Boys tennis: Batavia 2nd at West Aurora sectional

The Batavia doubles team of Andrew Nelson and Emerson Hinzy won the West Aurora boys tennis sectional championship Saturday, defeating IMSA's Daniel Costa and Joe Palakeel in the title match 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

The Bulldogs finished second in the team standings with 12 points. Metea Valley won the team title with 13 points.

Also advancing to the state finals for Batavia was the doubles team of Patrick Hanrahan and Nick Robinson, which finished fourth.

Aurora Christian's Dawson Poling won the singles title, beating Marmion's John King in the title match 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. West Aurora's William Isminger advanced to state with a third-place finish.

At Huntley: Huntley finished second to Belvidere North as a team and the Red Raiders advanced Julian Collins in singles (2nd) as well as the doubles teams of Trey Coleman-Ben Cazel (3rd) and Jacob Wat-Charlie Burian (4th). Also advancing to state competition was Burlington Central's Nicholas Welker, who was second in singles play.
