More charges for Aurora man accused of shooting during car chase

An Aurora man who was arrested last week on charges he shot at another motorist during a car chase now faces additional charges of felony burglary.

A Kane County grand jury indicted Gabriel Guerrero Jr., 22, of the 800 block of Gates Street, for felony theft and residential burglary stemming from a May 5 matter in Aurora, according to court records.

Guerrero, who was being held at the Kane County jail on $100,000 bail on the shooting case, faces between four and 15 years in prison if convicted of residential burglary. Probation also is an option.

Police said at 12:15 p.m. May 11, Guerrero and two unidentified 22-year-old men went to a home on the 500 block of South Elmwood Drive to confront two people. When one of the people saw the three, she called her 46-year-old father for help. Guerrero fired at the woman's father when he drove up in his vehicle, police said.

Police said Guerrero and the 22-year-olds ran back to their sport utility vehicle and were pursued by the 46-year-old man. The chase ended on Aurora's near southeast side when Guerrero shot and disabled the man's car, police said. The man was not injured.

Guerrero is next due in court June 10. If convicted in the shooting and chase case, he faces up to 15 years in prison, and sentences from the burglary and shooting would be served consecutively.
