Baseball: Bartlett tops Streamwood; St. Charles North falls

Cameron Mays had a big day at the plate and Matt Johnson pitched a 3-hitter Friday to lead the Bartlett baseball team to a 7-1 win over Streamwood in a preview of Monday's Class 4A Bartlett regional opener.

Mays went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI for the Hawks (15-17, 12-10 Upstate Eight). Mike Prang added a double for the winners.

Ryan Fitzgerald, Jr Alvarez and Jake Painter had the only hits for Streamwood (9-22, 8-16).

Glenbard East 7, St. Charles North 6: In a battle of the two Upstate Eight division champs, Glenbard East scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the North Stars (27-5, 22-2). Kyle Novotney led SCN with 4 hits (2 doubles) and an RBI while Brenden Joyce (2B), Luke Corcoran (2 hits), Zach Mettetal (2B, RBI), John Legare (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Erik Rabin (2B, RBI) also contributed.

Geneva 6, South Elgin 2: Vincent McDonald had 3 hits while Dylan Baer (2 RBI) and Jack Wassel (2B) added doubles for Geneva (21-11, 16-8), which scored 4 runs in the top of the eighth inning in this UEC win. Trevor Wilcox picked up the win for the Vikings, going all 8 innings and allowing 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Justin Howard had 2 hits for South Elgin (18-10, 15-6). Jon Duffy was the losing pitcher in relief of Nate Gomez, who went 6 innings and allowed just 1 earned run on 4 hits.

East Aurora 8, Elgin 1: Elgin had 12 hits but could plate only 1 run in this UEC loss. Matt Turner, Hayden Gibson and Payton Reynolds had 2 hits each for the Maroons (6-28, 4-20).

Larkin 6, West Aurora 4: Jackson Reuter (2 hits), Zach Edgar (2 hits, 2B), Kenonne Mebane (2 hits, 2 RBI), Joey Rahn (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and David Weaver (2B) led the offense for Larkin (9-23, 5-19) in its UEC victory. Edgar was the winning pitcher and Josh Frazier earned the save. Ryan Becker (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Jake Arsenault (2B) and JJ Rivera (2B, RBI) led West Aurora (12-16, 10-12).

Batavia 4, West Chicago 2: Glenn Albanese, Jr. went 5 innings and allowed 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks for Batavia in this UEC win. Joe Burke had a double and 2 RBI for the Bulldogs (20-10, 15-8) and Ben Lynam added a double and an RBI.

St. Francis 8, ACC 6: Jake Smith had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Jimmy Laurenti added 2 doubles and an RBI for Aurora Central (19-13) in this nonconference loss. Michael Bieterman (2 hits, RBI), Sean Sinisko (2B, RBI) and Kyle Czerak (2 hits, RBI) also contributed for the Chargers.

Grayslake Central 8, Burlington Central 3: In a nonconference game, Clay Milas (RBI), Josh Noeska and Killian Vasica (RBI) each had doubles for Burlington Central (19-12).

Dundee-Crown 3, DeKalb 1: Erik Hedmark went 6⅓ innings, allowing 8 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks and had a double and 2 RBI of his own to lead the Chargers (14-15) to this nonconference win. Nick Musielewicz had 2 hits with a double for D-C. Matt Wiechmann earned the save on the mound.

New Trier 2, Kaneland 0: Matthew O'Sullivan allowed just 3 hits and no earned runs with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks in 6 innings but Kaneland (12-12) managed just 4 hits of its own in this nonconference loss.
