Strykowski resigns from District 54 board

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 Board Member Karen Strykowski announced her imminent resignation after 11 years of service at Thursday's meeting.

Board President Char Kegarise said Strykowski's resignation was for personal reasons and will take effect June 8, after the upcoming performance review of the superintendent.

"I can tell you there wasn't a dry eye, particularly among us board members," Kegarise said Friday of the announcement. "Karen brings so much perspective to the board - different from ours, because she was a teacher. She's one of the hardest working board members I've known. She set the gold standard pretty high for board members."

The board will have 45 days after June 8 to search for and appoint a new member. Kegarise said the field of candidates for appointments is often broad as it includes people who might be wary of the challenges of running for election.
