Women's Club of Inverness awards 2016 scholarships

The Women's Club of Inverness celebrated the accomplishments of local students by awarding each a scholarship of $1,000 at the May 12 meeting at the Inverness Golf Club. The students are selected based on their financial need, academic achievement and application quality.

Scholarships were presented to graduating seniors and college students living in the area served by High School Districts 211 and 220. These students have diverse goals: physician and pediatric nursing to business, engineering, and teaching mathematics. All have met challenges in their lives and found ways to help the community by volunteering. The 2016 recipients are:

• James B. Conant High School: Priya Shah

• William Fremd High School: Bradley James Posdal

• Hoffman Estates High School: Alyssa Bellows, Callie Johnson, Magdiel Miranda-Lopez, Zaria Ward

• Palatine High School: Hien Lai, Leslie Madrid, Elizabeth Rodriguez

• Benedictine University: Samia Quadri, Sana Quadri

• Harper College: Monica Cardenas

• Illinois Wesleyan: Sana Shaffiuddin

• Loyola University: Erin Falsey

• Northern Illinois University: Melissa Mancini, Marvin Vargas

• University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana: Bianca Rosa Perez

Congratulations to each of these outstanding students.

Women's Club of Inverness raised funds for the scholarships through two major fundraisers: "New York, New York," in the fall, and "Music and Fashion, Phantom of the Opera Style" held in April.
